Enjoy the Warmth and Convenience of a Gas Fireplace

A gas fireplace gives you the warmth, glow, and inviting atmosphere of a traditional fire without the work that comes with burning wood. With convenient controls and no firewood to haul, store, or clean up after, it’s an easy way to make your living space warmer and more welcoming.
Gas fireplaces can also provide efficient supplemental heat while producing fewer particulates than traditional wood-burning fireplaces. Whether you want to upgrade an existing fireplace or add a new source of warmth and ambiance to your home, Ballard Heating, Cooling, Electric & Plumbing can help you explore options that fit your space, style, and comfort needs.
From fireplace inserts to gas log sets, our team can help you choose a solution that brings together the traditional look of a fire with the convenience of modern gas fireplace technology.

Choosing Gas Fireplaces

Gas fireplaces are not only more convenient than wood stoves—but they’re also better for the environment. Most burn with a 90 percent or higher efficiency rating, meaning virtually no pollution. Enjoy the flames, glow, and ambiance of a traditional fire with technology that simplifies your life.
Choosing Gas Fireplaces
Inserts
Fireplace inserts are a great way to enhance your existing fireplace while improving efficiency and heat output, as well as offering safety and style. With the included battery backup, you’ll never be caught off guard in the cold.
Inserts have the traditional “log and burner” design. This log and burner set is housed in a metal box, enclosed in another slightly larger metal box, and sits in your fireplace. You’ll also need to decide whether you want to vent or go vent-free.
Log Sets
Gas logs are a popular decorative alternative to traditional wood-burning fireplaces, offering convenience (touchscreen remote!) and producing fewer emissions while mimicking the look of real wood logs to enhance the ambiance of your space.
Log sets are the most budget-friendly option due to their simplicity. A specialist will place ceramic faux logs in your fireplace and install a gas burner underneath to produce flames.

Yes. We hold Washington contractor licenses BALLANG062QD and BASHAAP823QR, and our technicians are licensed professionals. We are also a Mitsubishi Diamond Elite Contractor, a Trane Comfort Specialist and a Lennox Premier Dealer, and a longstanding member of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America.
A direct vent unit can heat the room it is in well, and is useful for taking the edge off a cold space without running the whole house system. It is a supplement to central heating rather than a replacement for it, and it is worth being clear about which job you want it to do before you buy.
Yes, and it is more often skipped than any other gas appliance in the house. Annual service checks the burner and pilot, cleans the glass and logs, inspects the venting, and confirms the safety shutoffs work. Venting is the part that matters most, because a blocked or damaged vent is a combustion safety issue.

We quote upfront, before the work starts, so there is no surprise at the end. For larger jobs we put a detailed proposal together onsite and back it with our Price Lock Guarantee, which means the price we put in writing is the price you pay. Estimates are free.
Since 1993. We have been locally-led and operated that whole time, which is more than thirty years working on homes in this region. That matters more than it sounds: Puget Sound housing stock runs from 1920s bungalows to new construction, and the right answer for one is rarely the right answer for the other.
Often the same day. If you call before 1pm we can usually get a technician to you that day, and members of our 5 Star Maintenance Plan go to the front of the queue. Our vans are stocked, so most common repairs are finished on the first visit rather than waiting on a part.
Check the gas supply valve is open and, on an older unit, whether the pilot has gone out. Newer units use electronic ignition, so a tripped breaker or a dead battery in the receiver stops it. If the pilot lights and will not stay lit, that is usually a thermocouple or thermopile and it needs a technician.
It is our annual maintenance membership. Members get discounted annual maintenance, priority service, no overtime charges, a discounted diagnostic fee that is free at the Platinum level, an extended repair warranty, discounted water heater service, and a reminder when your maintenance is due. Members who call before 1pm can usually be seen the same day.
A three year labor warranty on our work as standard, plus a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty. Manufacturer warranties on the equipment itself run separately and vary by brand and model. A Comfort Shield Extended Warranty is available if you want coverage beyond that, and we will explain what each one covers before you decide.
A light haze is normal and comes off with fireplace glass cleaner. Heavy black soot is not normal and means incomplete combustion, usually from a misaligned log set, a dirty burner or a venting problem. Log placement matters more than people expect, and putting them back wrong after cleaning causes it regularly.
