Kinds of Faucets

Consider the variety of faucet styles available today: Goosenecks, single handle, double handle, touchless, smart, wall-mounted, spray capable. Each faucet style requires a different approach to repairs, parts, and installation, depending on their inner workings. Here are three popular kinds of faucets:

  • A ceramic disc faucet, for example, has two slotted ceramic discs, one fixed and the other movable, that control the flow of water as they align. A single handle on the fixture operates water volume and temperature.
  • Faucets with a ball valve also use a single handle. The handle controls a metal ball with holes and slots. When the openings align in different positions, they adjust the temperature and flow of the water.
  • The single handle of a cartridge faucet moves the cylindrical cartridge up or down to control water flow and temperature. A two-handled cartridge faucet uses two cartridges, one for each handle.

Yes, and it is worth doing before a freeze rather than after. A leaking or non frost proof outdoor spigot can freeze and split the pipe behind the wall, and that damage is discovered when it thaws and floods. Frost proof replacements avoid it.

We quote upfront, before the work starts, so there is no surprise at the end. For larger jobs we put a detailed proposal together onsite and back it with our Price Lock Guarantee, which means the price we put in writing is the price you pay. Estimates are free.

Since 1993. We have been locally-led and operated that whole time, which is more than thirty years working on homes in this region. That matters more than it sounds: Puget Sound housing stock runs from 1920s bungalows to new construction, and the right answer for one is rarely the right answer for the other.

Often the same day. If you call before 1pm we can usually get a technician to you that day, and members of our 5 Star Maintenance Plan go to the front of the queue. Our vans are stocked, so most common repairs are finished on the first visit rather than waiting on a part.

It is usually a quick fix and it wastes more water than people assume, steadily, every day. A worn cartridge, washer or O ring is the normal cause. It is also the kind of thing worth bundling with any other plumbing work rather than making a trip on its own.

If the body is sound and parts are available, repair is cheaper and sensible. If the faucet is old enough that cartridges are no longer made, or the base is corroded and seeping, replacement lasts longer and costs less than repeated repairs.

It is our annual maintenance membership. Members get discounted annual maintenance, priority service, no overtime charges, a discounted diagnostic fee that is free at the Platinum level, an extended repair warranty, discounted water heater service, and a reminder when your maintenance is due. Members who call before 1pm can usually be seen the same day.

A three year labor warranty on our work as standard, plus a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty. Manufacturer warranties on the equipment itself run separately and vary by brand and model. A Comfort Shield Extended Warranty is available if you want coverage beyond that, and we will explain what each one covers before you decide.

Nearly always the aerator, which collects mineral deposits and debris. Unscrewing and rinsing it fixes it more often than not. If flow is still poor with the aerator off, it is the cartridge or the supply line to that fixture.
