Keep Your Furnace Ready for Cold Weather

Your furnace works hard to keep your Puget Sound home comfortable throughout the colder months. Annual furnace maintenance gives your heating system the professional attention it needs to operate efficiently and reliably while helping identify developing problems before they lead to an unexpected breakdown.
During a furnace tune-up, the experienced technicians at Ballard Heating, Cooling, Electric & Plumbing inspect key components, check system operation, and look for signs of wear or performance issues. Regular maintenance can help reduce unnecessary strain on your equipment, support efficient operation, and give you greater confidence that your furnace is ready when you need it.
Whether you’re preparing for another heating season or simply keeping up with your home’s preventative maintenance, Ballard makes it easy to take care of your furnace.

Our Furnace Maintenance Services Include

A furnace tune-up is about more than confirming that your system produces warm air. Our technicians take a closer look at your equipment to evaluate its performance, safety, and overall condition.
Depending on your furnace and system, maintenance may include:
- Inspecting and cleaning key furnace components
- Checking the heat exchanger
- Testing ignition and startup components
- Evaluating burners and flame quality
- Checking airflow and air-handling components
- Testing safety controls and sensors
- Inspecting the HVAC filter
- Checking thermostat operation
- Looking for worn or damaged components
- Evaluating overall furnace performance
Routine inspections can help uncover restricted airflow, ignition concerns, worn components, and other issues before they develop into more disruptive furnace problems.

Yes. We hold Washington contractor licenses BALLANG062QD and BASHAAP823QR, and our technicians are licensed professionals. We quote upfront, before the work starts, so there is no surprise at the end. For larger jobs we put a detailed proposal together onsite and back it with our Price Lock Guarantee, which means the price we put in writing is the price you pay. Estimates are free.
Since 1993. We have been locally-led and operated that whole time, which is more than thirty years working on homes in this region. That matters more than it sounds: Puget Sound housing stock runs from 1920s bungalows to new construction, and the right answer for one is rarely the right answer for the other.
Every one to three months for a standard filter, more often with pets, allergies, or during wildfire smoke season when the system works harder. Thicker media filters run longer. More heating faults trace back to a blocked filter than to any other single cause, and it is the cheapest thing you can do.
Often the same day. If you call before 1pm we can usually get a technician to you that day, and members of our 5 Star Maintenance Plan go to the front of the queue. Our vans are stocked, so most common repairs are finished on the first visit rather than waiting on a part.
We inspect and clean the burners, check the heat exchanger, test the igniter and flame sensor, check electrical connections and the blower, verify the venting draws properly, and confirm the thermostat is calling correctly. The heat exchanger inspection matters most, because a cracked one is a safety issue rather than a comfort one.
It is our annual maintenance membership. Members get discounted annual maintenance, priority service, no overtime charges, a discounted diagnostic fee that is free at the Platinum level, an extended repair warranty, discounted water heater service, and a reminder when your maintenance is due. Members who call before 1pm can usually be seen the same day.
A three year labor warranty on our work as standard, plus a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty. Manufacturer warranties on the equipment itself run separately and vary by brand and model. A Comfort Shield Extended Warranty is available if you want coverage beyond that, and we will explain what each one covers before you decide.
Once a year, in early autumn before the first cold snap. The reason for the timing is availability as much as anything: a fault found in September is scheduled at your convenience, and the same fault found in December is found in the same week as everybody else's.
Usually it is required. Most manufacturer warranties expect documented annual service, and a denied claim on an expensive component is a hard way to discover that. Our 5 Star Maintenance Plan keeps the record and reminds you when the service is due.
When Should You Schedule Furnace Maintenance?
For most homes, scheduling furnace maintenance once a year is a good way to keep your heating system prepared for regular use. Having your furnace serviced before colder weather arrives gives a technician an opportunity to identify potential problems before your system is working its hardest.
You should also consider scheduling service if you notice unusual noises, inconsistent heating, reduced airflow, frequent cycling, or an unexpected change in your energy costs. Even if your furnace seems to be working normally, preventative maintenance can help catch wear and performance concerns that may not be obvious during everyday operation.
Ballard Heating, Cooling, Electric & Plumbing can help keep your furnace ready for the heating season with professional maintenance and straightforward recommendations based on the condition of your system.
