Enjoy Efficient, On-Demand Hot Water

A Navien tankless water heater in a customer's home.

A tankless water heater only heats water when you turn on the faucet. The difference can save you hundreds of dollars each year in heating bills.

  • Tankless models also use up less space. Instead of trying to fit a storage tank that might hold up to 80 gallons of water in a utility room, a tankless system is a relatively small metal box that mounts to your wall.
  • Rather than storing heated water, a tankless water heater heats cold water on demand—whenever you turn on a faucet. No more waiting for your water to heat up.
  • Without the need to store gallons of water, the tankless heater is much more compact.
  • You'll never have to worry about coming home to a giant pool of water in your basement from a leaking water tank.

With this type of on-demand process, energy efficiency is high. You are only using energy to heat the water precisely when you need it, so this keeps your energy costs low by conserving water.

You will more than make up the initial cost of your tankless model in energy savings over the long haul.

Benefits of Going Tankless

Hot water coming out of a faucet.

A tankless water heater gives you hot water when you need it without continuously heating and storing a large tank of water. That on-demand design can reduce wasted energy while freeing up valuable space in your home.

Tankless systems are also built for longevity. With proper care, many can last 20 years or longer, compared with the typical 10 to 15 years for a traditional storage tank water heater. Because there is no large tank holding dozens of gallons of water, you also eliminate the risk of a deteriorating tank eventually leaking its contents into your home.

For homeowners looking for an efficient, compact way to meet their hot water needs, going tankless can be a worthwhile long-term upgrade.

Yes. We hold Washington contractor licenses BALLANG062QD and BASHAAP823QR, and our technicians are licensed professionals. We are also a Mitsubishi Diamond Elite Contractor, a Trane Comfort Specialist and a Lennox Premier Dealer, and a longstanding member of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America.

Usually yes, but it is more than a swap. Tankless units need a larger gas supply and different venting, and the electrical may need attention. We look at all of that onsite and quote the real scope, rather than pricing the unit and discovering the rest halfway through.

Yes. Ballard Heating, Cooling, Electric & Plumbing offers financing options to help you spread the cost of larger projects, such as a new heat pump, furnace, air conditioner, water heater, or electrical panel upgrade, into manageable monthly payments. Visit our Financing page to see current options, or call us at 206-784-8101 and our team will walk you through what's available for your project.

We quote upfront, before the work starts, so there is no surprise at the end. For larger jobs we put a detailed proposal together onsite and back it with our Price Lock Guarantee, which means the price we put in writing is the price you pay. Estimates are free.

Commonly twenty years or more with annual servicing, against ten to fifteen for a tank. That longer life is a real part of the value, but it depends on the servicing actually happening. Descaling matters most, especially with harder water, and skipping it is what shortens the life and voids most manufacturer warranties. It is worth putting on a schedule rather than waiting for a symptom.

Since 1993. We have been locally-led and operated that whole time, which is more than thirty years working on homes in this region. That matters more than it sounds: Puget Sound housing stock runs from 1920s bungalows to new construction, and the right answer for one is rarely the right answer for the other.

Often the same day. If you call before 1pm we can usually get a technician to you that day, and members of our 5 Star Maintenance Plan go to the front of the queue. Our vans are stocked, so most common repairs are finished on the first visit rather than waiting on a part.

It suits some households and not others. You get unlimited hot water, a much longer service life than a tank, and no standby losses from keeping water hot around the clock. Installation costs more, particularly if gas line or venting work is needed, so the payback depends on your usage.

It is our annual maintenance membership. Members get discounted annual maintenance, priority service, no overtime charges, a discounted diagnostic fee that is free at the Platinum level, an extended repair warranty, discounted water heater service, and a reminder when your maintenance is due. Members who call before 1pm can usually be seen the same day.

A three year labor warranty on our work as standard, plus a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty. Manufacturer warranties on the equipment itself run separately and vary by brand and model. A Comfort Shield Extended Warranty is available if you want coverage beyond that, and we will explain what each one covers before you decide.

It will not run out, but it is limited by flow rate rather than volume. Sizing has to match how many fixtures you might run at once, and our incoming water is colder than in warmer states, which reduces the flow a given unit can heat. Undersizing is the usual cause of disappointment.
